Extraordinary Circumstances Exceptions (ECE) User Interface Available in EQRS
April 18, 2025
On April 18, 2025, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Extraordinary Circumstances Exceptions (ECE) User Interface (UI) in the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Quality Reporting System (EQRS). CMS offers a process for dialysis facilities to request, and for CMS to grant, exceptions when extraordinary circumstances arise that are beyond the facility’s control and impact their regular operations. In the event of such a circumstance, the dialysis facility must submit an ECE Request.
For detailed instructions on utilizing the ECE application in EQRS, please refer to the ESRD QIP ECE UI Guide. Answers to common questions are available in an ECE UI Frequently Asked Questions document.
Note: Facilities are not required to submit ECE requests in EQRS. Requests may also be submitted by accessing the online form and following the instructions here.
